Romantic Suspense

Award-Winning Author Patricia Bradley is BACK with Crosshairs, book three in the Natchez Trace Park Ranger series.

What a great addition to an excellent romantic suspense series! I’ve really enjoyed the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, with a unique focus on the various roles park rangers hold, set in the deep south. Bradley brings the area alive with her vivid imagery and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout this story with her many twists and turns.

When evil just won't quit, good must prevail

Investigative Services Branch ranger Ainsley Beaumont wishes the visit to her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, was under better circumstances. When she arrived to investigate the murder of a pregnant teenager, she never imagined that she would become the killer's next target--or that she'd have to work alongside an old flame.

After he almost killed a child, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn't bring himself to fire a gun, which had deadly consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her.

The only question is, will it be too little, too late?

I’ve really enjoyed the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, with a unique focus on the various roles park rangers hold, set in the deep south. Investigative Services Branch (ISB) ranger Ainsley Beaumont is assigned to her hometown to investigate the murder of a teenager near the Old Natchez Trace. Almost immediately, her world is turned upside down as she finds her own life in danger and she’s found herself paired with her past love, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele. As they work together to investigate multiple mysterious events as well as protect Ainsley’s life, this complex plot unfolds.

I enjoyed both of the main characters in this story, as well as Rose and Cora. Ainsley was relatable and as she internally battles her feelings and works on trusting Lincoln with her heart again, readers are able to witness a strong female lead. Linc’s character was lovable and the romance between he and Ainsley was fantastic. I loved that things heated up between them quickly and found myself smiling at their occasional flirtation and banter. I did find Linc’s personal struggle somewhat hard to believe, but appreciated how the author allowed him to overcome fear by faith.

This story offers insight into the villainous side of the story by offering short chapters from the point of view of multiple people. In this story, this was a limitation for me, as I feel very few authors can give insight into a villian’s mind properly, which takes away from the element of surprise. However, I realize this is a personal preference and I do believe the author used these insights to further her complex plot.

The romance and suspense to this story maintained intensity from beginning to end, keeping the story highly entertaining! My favorite part of this story was the ending as the mysteries began to be revealed and the author just kept surprising me. The faith-based elements to the story were strong and refreshing without being too heavy, making this a read that both Christian and secular readers can enjoy.

Overall, a great read that was highly enjoyable with strong characters and a sparking romance! A definite must-read.
