Written by Ed Drew and Illustrated by Alex Webb-Peploe

About This Book:

These simple 10-minute family devotions for Advent, with graphic-novel-style illustrations, explore the Gospel accounts of the first Christmas in an engaging way, and will help families keep Christ at the heart of their celebrations.

With all the Bible passages and questions already laid out, you can lead these devotions without needing any extra time to prepare, making family devotional time an achievable joy, not an unrealistic burden. There are different sets of questions for 3-4s, 5-7s, 7-12s, teens and even parents, so the whole family can enjoy looking at the Bible together.

There is an accompanying Advent Calendar available for purchase, complete with stickers.

My Review:

This absolutely beautiful guide to Advent is the perfect resource for any family this Christmas season! In our home, it is our desire to focus the Christmas season on the birth of Christ and what that means to us as Christians. With a rich Biblical application, this guide begins in the book of Luke, starting with the infallibility of the Bible, preparing our hearts for Christmas, praising Him, giving gratitude for His promises, the joy He offers, and the promise He brings.

In the past, celebrating Advent in a theologically rich way has felt unattainable. Especially with a little one in our home. However, this guide changes everything! I love it’s practicality!

Designed to be enjoyed in a minimum of ten minutes a day, each of the 25 sections includes a short beginning prayer, a location in Scripture highlight, thought-provoking questions to engage family members of all ages, a summarizing thought and prayer plus some optional, interactive ideas like crafts or activities, a chat starter, and a deeper insight for adults to continue to mull over.

Not only is this guide a one-stop resource for the whole family, but it specifically allows for the combination of additional resources like a children’s Bible and even gives suggestions - something I value as a parent to a preschooler! Families can use this guide as a standalone resource or use it accompany their favorite advent traditions.

This gorgeous paperback book also has a calendar available for purchase, that has accompanying stickers which your family can use to countdown to Christmas. This is optional and should you chose to forego the calendar, you’ll be delighted to find that inside the book, there is a set of black and white countdown icons you or your children can cut out, color and string or adhere on your own.

I’m very excited to begin the journey towards Christmas with my family this year with The Adventure of Christmas. Not only does Advent feel doable, but I’m looking forward to spending more time focusing on the true meaning of Christmas and allowing God’s Word and promises to saturate my heart this holiday season.
