#LittleSummerJoy 2016 | A DIY Mini Album Celebrating Summer (via LittlePaperProjects.com) - Week 1

Hi friends!  If you're in the same hemisphere as myself you're probably experiencing warm weather, sunshine and all the fun summer activities that come along with this time of year.  While summer hasn't always been my first choice for favorite season, I'm really learning to embrace the time of the year and all it has to offer. That is directly related to the #LittleSummerJOY class by my friends over at LittlePaperProjects.com.  This week, they've been celebrating the little things that add some joy into our daily lives and I joined in.

See my supplies for this project here and the first few pages of my DIY mini album here.

#LittleSummerJoy 2016 | A DIY Mini Album Celebrating Summer (via LittlePaperProjects.com) - Introduction

Happy Tuesday! I'm jumping online really quick today to share a little peek into the start of my DIY mini album that's half scrapbook, half traveler's notebook for #LittleSummerJOY! If you don't already know what that is, it is a class taught by my friends over at LittlePaperProjects.com about discovering, celebrating and documenting the little daily joys of the summer (or winter if you're in the southern hemisphere!) months. I was a contributor for this class last year and enjoyed it so much, I'm playing again this year!

Ok here goes... These are the first few pages of my DIY mini album. I haven't fully decided on a cover yet, so I thought I'd go ahead and start on the interior pages then I'll decide how to design the cover later. For now, I have this simple mockup cover.  I have to admit, doing a traveler's album is really out of my comfort zone since I'm a little obsessive about putting finished pages into page protectors (to keep fingerprints and dirt off the finished pages).  This is very new to me and I was nervous about creating spreads that I couldn't pull apart and redo if I didn't like them. But so far, I've found laying out the spreads on my desk before adhering things together and printing my journaling has really helped. I'll share more about that on Friday when I share my first few pages.

It is very hard to see in my photographs, but behind this vellum page are the word "Every Summer Has a Story".

All of the girls playing along have shared these beautiful summer manifesto pages.  I haven't yet gotten around to creating my mine, but I feel certain it's going to be very short. Mostly, I just want to enjoy the long days, focus on being happy and keep trying to start a family.  I also plan to sit down and journal WHY I'm doing this project again. I hope to share that soon.

Summer Mini Album | Artifact Uprising Square Prints

Last summer, we took a beautiful week long vacation on the Gulf Coast of Florida. This is one of my favorite summer destinations, so rich in coastal beauty and luxurious architecture. I love the various beaches along the scenic highway and enjoy photographing their splendor.

When we arrived home from our trip, I knew I wanted to document the vacation in a separate mini album with the focus being on the photos. This would be my first complete mini album experience. I chose this Greige WRMK 4x4 album because of it's neutral color, which I simply adore. I then ordered a set of 25 Square Prints from Artifact Uprising. When it comes to minimalism and quality, no one beats Artifact Uprising in my opinion.  I am so in love with the perfection of these prints.

I used a standard hole punch and inserted my photos into the album. I wanted to label the different areas we visited, so I journaled about each beach using this template from Paislee Press and printed the journaling on clear vellum.  Next, I cut 5x5 squares from 12x12 scrapbook paper I had from a Felicity Jane kit. I punched holes in each of the double sided papers and inserted them between random photos.  Lastly, I included a few digital design elements from One Little Bird's Cabana collection and completed the album. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out!

Since our trip also included some other "everyday" photos of things like our food, our vacation rental and kayaking on the ocean, I also ordered this 5.5x5.5 Square Soft Cover album to document those memories. I'll be sharing a look at that photo book soon. I keep both the mini album and soft cover book stored on a shelf, tucked away, neatly together.  As a result of this project turning out so well, I definitely plan to use this method again for future trips.

#LittleSummerJoy 2016 | Supplies for a DIY Mini Album Celebrating Summer (via LittlePaperProjects.com)

Hey guys, I am so excited to share that I’ll be playing along with my friends Jen + Julie over at LittlePaperProjects.com for another year of #LittleSummerJoy.  Last year I was a contributor for the project and had so much fun creating for it. I can’t wait to find out who will be contributing this year and browse their inspiration!

Until then, however, I’ve been gathering supplies and making some mental notes of how I’d like my project to come together. Last year I created this mini album using mostly pocket pages. This year, I want to try something a little more outside my comfort zone.  I’ve noticed a few of you gals on Instagram are planning to do the TN Midori style.  While I love this concept, I am a bit OCD about how my albums look on my shelf and wanted to continue using my chipboard binders, since that is what holds last year’s project.  So I began devising a way to create a DIY book that I can bind and insert into my6x8 binder.  I’ve been browsing Pinterest and formed my idea from this pin and this pin.

So my plan is to create individual pages that are roughly 5x8.5.  I’ll simply use 8.5x11 paper and cut it in half, using 1” to score and punch holes for the binding at the end of the project.  Then I’ll insert the finished project into my binder.  By using individual pages, my plan is to be able to run them through my printer to type out long journaling pages when I wish.

Last year, I chose the colors I wanted for my project (see last year's list of supplies here).  This year, the colors have chosen me based on what I already had in my stash. Since I’m a huge believer in using what I already have, I’ve compiled supplies with neutral colors, focusing on white, teal, soft beiges, black text and little pops of color.

For my photos, I plan to use my Instax Mini Printer and also incorporate a few 2x2 and 4x4 prints which I’ll have to order from a professional lab since I don’t have a photo printer at home.

I’ve been pinning all kinds of inspiration for my project to this board.  Just for visual inspiration, I’ve added some fun quotes, digital design elements by my favorite designers and much more. Come check it out!  In addition, you can find the LittlePaperProjects.com board here.

I can’t wait to get started on this project. I’m really hoping for some free time this weekend to get busy.  Will you be joining in?  I hope so! If so, leave me a comment or tag me on Instagram (@turquoiseavenue) to show me what you’re working on!

Happy Memory Keeping!
