Our Journey To Becoming A Family
We are often asked about our adoption journey, how it began and what the future holds for us. While there is so much to our story, here’s a quick synopsis of our journey. We know many of you have also struggled with infertility and loss, and want you to know that our hearts are with you. May 2020 - Placed our home on temporary foster care hold to focus on some financial and family matters.
Jan. 2020 - Applied to adopt a sibling set of girls, age 2 and 4 from foster care. Interviewed as one of three potential families. Received a call three weeks later that another family was chosen. Applied for an 8 month old baby girl from foster care. Received a call a few weeks later that another family was chosen.
Dec. 2019 - Respite for twin two year old girls
Oct. 2019 - Became state approved foster parents, awaiting placement
May 2019 - Ectopic pregnancy #2 ruptured/emergency life saving surgery and subsequent recovery. No longer able to conceive naturally.
Nov. 2018 - FINALIZED!
May 2018 - Baby Girl was placed with us at birth.
Feb. 1, 2018 - MATCH! We received that call from our consultant that a birthmama chose us to parent her child!
Dec. 9, 2017 - Ectopic pregnancy ruptured/emergency life saving surgery and subsequent six week recovery. So saddened by yet another loss.
Nov. 24, 2017 - Found out we were PREGNANT!
Aug. 5, 2017 - Received our ACTIVE email!
July 17, 2017 - Mailed all our docs and profile books to our adoption consultation agency.
July 10, 2017 - Had fingerprints done at the Sheriff’s Office for a Texas Clearance process.
July 2, 2017 - Launched our envelope fundraiser!
June 30, 2017 - Our Home Study is COMPLETE!
June 26 -27, 2017 - Our profile books arrived.
June 15, 2017 - Launched our online fundraiser with YouCaring, a crowdfunding platform.
June 14, 2017 - Ordered our Profile Book! Posted a blog update here.
June 9, 2017 - Final Home Study Appointment
May 11, 2017 - First Home Study Appointment
May 5 and 6, 2017 - First official fundraiser - a two day garage sale of items from our home, plus items donated by six other households of friends and family.
April 26, 2017 - Booked our home study appointments.
April 21, 2017 - First phone call with adoption consultation agency
April 20, 2017 - Welcome packet arrived from adoption consultation agency
April 17, 2017 - Shipped our contract and payment to adoption consultation agency
April 7, 2017 - Signed and notarized our adoption consultation agency contract and updated our friends here.
March 30, 2017 - Signed a contract with an adoption consultation agency.
February 7, 2017 - Announced we are adopting!
January 2017 - Spent lots of time calling & interviewing agencies, researching, learning, and educating our families. Decided on who we felt called to work with.
December 25, 2016 - Surprised our families with news we wanted to adopt!
December 2016 - Began to research adoption and talk with friends who have adopted.
November 2016 - Feeling overwhelmed with fertility medications and frustrated. Talked about IUI and IVF options. God began impressing adoption on our hearts more and more.
October 2016 - Called for next Clomid dosage and Dr. was on vacation. Missed time frame to take meds.
September 2016 - Third Clomid cycle fails.
June 29, 2016 - Dr. Appointment, discussed low progesterone being possible factor of miscarriage and any future pregnancies. Clomid prescribed again.
May 6, 2016 - Dr. confirms miscarriage (read our story here , here , here and here in the four part series I shared shortly after that loss)
April 30, 2016 - Bought baby’s first gift. More bloodwork. Lost our baby that night at six weeks along.
April 28, 2016 - THREE Confirmed home pregnancy tests!
April 2016 - Clomid fails, began second cycle.
March 2016 - Fourth dr. appointment. Began taking Clomid.
November 18, 2015 - Third dr. appointment. Began Metformin
October 27, 2015 - Pregnancy test shows positive! Several tests next day show negative.
August 26, 2015 - Second dr. visit, second ultrasound after irregular cycles. Received a PCOS official diagnosis and discussed medicinal options of Metformin and Clomid.
May 13th, 2015 - Annual wellness exam. NP discussed PCOS and sent me for bloodwork, scheduled ultrasound. Notified I had ovarian cysts.
December 2014 - Began trying for a baby.
Spring 2011 - Our journey as husband and wife began.
