I am so excited for the weekend and break from the daily work routine -  I have all sorts of Christmas projects to tackle - wrapping presents, writing cards, baking cookies! And of course, the Pentatonix Christmas album will be on REPEAT on our home stereo system.

I'm here today to share my plans for my December Daily® project. Since I only spent a few days preparing for this project and gathering my supplies (find out why here), I decided I'm going to gather up the photos I have taken recently of our favorite Christmas memories we've already made this year, group them together, and spend time each day documenting a story.  Then, I'll integrate photos and memories as they happen throughout the month. I plan to journal each day, even if I don't get time to actually create pages but once a week or so.

I set up a Google Doc on my computer and synced it to my iPhone so each day I can jot down a story as time allows. Then whenever I get time to work on my album, I can easily copy + paste my journaling. You can do this in many apps - Apple Pages, Google Docs, and Simplenote are my favorite.

I already started my journaling during some downtime at the office and wrote out "My Reason Why"

...So the reason I’m doing this project? Because despite how busy we have been, this season is a time of cheer - a time to reflect on the good year we’ve had, a time to be thankful for God’s many blessings, a time to enjoy with family and friends, and a time to focus on the real meaning of Christmas. I want to note the things that bring us joy at this time in our lives. I want to reminisce over this year and shift my focus towards the holidays so I can create and share the memories of this special time for years to come.

This year Ali also has a free printable to document your intentions, if you like that better.

Since we are not doing an advent calendar or anything that will spark daily inspiration, I decided to create a list (see my Instagram conversation with @lilyandtwig about lists) of word prompts for my journaling and photos.  I'm sharing my list below and will be using different digital word art pieces from various designers to create title pages in my album.

MY WORD + PHOTO PROMPTS

  • JOY - document favorite parts of the year, gifts received at Christmas
  • REMEMBER - Document a favorite holiday memory between me and hubby
  • FAMILY - Family Photo of us with our dog, Time spent with extended family
  • TRADITION - Christmas eve
  • DECORATE - Our Trees/Mantle, Outside of the house
  • SING - Church/Living Christmas Tree,  Favorite Pandora Station and Holiday Songs
  • GIVE - Gifts under the tree, cards mailed out
  • LIGHTS - Bokeh of the Christmas tree, Dollywood visit, Speedway in Lights visit
  • REJOICE - note some things we are thankful for, incorporate the #thankful30 that wasn't finished (sigh)
  • CELEBRATE - birthday celebration and work parties
  • WISH - document our wish lists

And here are some of my first few pages - I implemented elements from the beautiful, brand new Chestnut Lane Collection from One Little Bird in with some of the supplies I already had.  These pages took on a form all their own - the photos were taken at night and brought a rich, dark feel to the layout.  Even though my style is more light and natural, I embraced the difference and I'm happy with how the spreads turned out.  I used a white glassine bag to hold our memorabilia from the day and vellum to mute the richer tones of the dark brown paper.

I have also created a title page, a shaker pocket page (swoon!), a few other simple pages that I hope to photograph and share REALLY soon!

Until then, happy crafting! Can't wait to see what you all have been up to this week!
